UAE signs air services agreement with Zimbabwe and Niger
The United Arab Emirates has signed an air services Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and initialed an Air Services Agreement (ASA) with the Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe in Dubai on 03 October 2012.
The MoUs allows full flexibility on the routes, capacity, number of frequencies and types of aircraft, in any type of service (passenger or cargo).The agreement was initialed by Mr. Omar Bin Ghaleb, Deputy Director General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Mr. Munesushe Munodawafa, Secretary for Transport, Communications and Infrastructural Development of the Republic of Zimbabwe. Representatives from Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Sharjah Department of Civil Aviation, Ras Al Khaimah Department of Civil Aviation, Etihad Airways, Emirates Airline and RAK Airways attended the negotiations. The signed memorandum also includes the exercise of fifth freedom traffic rights. In addition, both Parties agreed to allow unrestricted non-scheduled / charter operations between the two countries.
Mr. Omar Bin Ghaleb stressed the importance of this Agreement, which will further boost the travel and trade between UAE and Zimbabwe. Mr. Ghaleb has also signed an air services Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and initialed an Air Services Agreement (ASA) with the Government of the Republic of Niger in Dubai on 04 October 2012.

"According to the provisions Lusaka, Harare, Lilongwe, Windhoek, Antananarivo and Saint-Denis are specified as intermediate; Durban, Port Elizabeth and a point to be specified later are specified as beyond points for Turkish side. Intermediate and beyond points of Mozambique are going to be specified later."
Have you heard anything about Turkish operating a flight to Maputo via Harare at all?
Very interesting, thanks for the article. I haven't heard anything about TK planning an HRE route but you never know with them. Obviously this will require a widebody A330-300 (I guess) which they just made a large order for. I know TK has been in talks with Lusaka for a while now but eventually both of these cities (HRE LUN) will be served by those ambitions plans they have.

I'm not really sure how to interpret the BASA; Emirates pretty much does as it pleases and i think Government is just so happy to have a reputable foreign carrier serving HRE again, that it lets them do as they wish, BASA or no.
ReplyDeleteVFA wise, i think EK may wait for a better air terminal to be in place before they introduce DXB-VFA or even DXB-HRE-VFA. Hell, imagine the killing they'd make on a 5th freedom HRE-VFA-HRE flight, and how pathetic that would make us look; an African country depending on an Arab carrier to provide half decent domestic flights :P

Interesting thoughts on VFA and EK but I think the terminal and runway project might take a while to complete. I'm surprised KQ hasn't show interest in VFA or SAA doing CPT-VFA. Anyways enough of this, I'm currently working on setting up a facebook and probably twitter page so once I'm up will definitely send you the follow link.
